In fluctuating economic times, an organization’s ability to manage change through innovation is key to its success.

Business analysts translate the needs of the customer into new products and services. They assist businesses in implementing technology solutions in a cost-effective way by determining the requirements of a project or program and communicating them clearly to stakeholders, facilitators, and partners.

With its content based on the exigencies of recognized institutions such as PMI and IIBA, our Business Analyst in Information Technology program equips students with the skills to help organizations assess business processes and recommend solutions. Students acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the relevant subjects in this field such as fundamentals of project management, project tracking using JIRA, data manipulation using SQL, Agile Methodologies, the Scrum Framework, and other business analysis tools.

This is an entry-level course/program, but it assumes that students have the following:

Completed secondary education

General computer knowledge – knowing basic hardware components and how to operate a system

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office – able to create Word documents following specific requirements as well as Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations

Completed post-secondary studies in relevant field or have relevant work experience for at least one year

Upon successful completion of the program, the college grants the student an AEC (Attestation d’études collégiales)

A.E.C. – Business Analyst of Information Technology (LCA.EM)

In this module you gain the foundational skills to perform the role of business analyst, and an understanding of the BA role in the design, development, and testing phases of a project. You learn how to plan business analysis activities, as well as the basics of eliciting, analyzing, modeling, and writing requirements.

Here you will learn concepts of relational Databases and SQL (Structured Query Language), which is one of the most valued technical skills a business analyst can have to manage data. It will make you a more valued member of any team. You’ll understand how to store, query and manipulate data in order to produce relevant information to make decisions.

The role of a business analyst in any environment requires strong management, communication and interpersonal skills. In this module you learn various soft skills required by IT professionals like negotiation skills, working with teams, presentation and facilitation skills, as well as concepts of project management related to the IT industry.

You will learn the six knowledge areas (KA) defined in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) and apply newfound competencies to perform business analysis tasks.You will also become familiar with BABOK v3 and the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) core standard.

Students learn to create an interactive and shareable dashboard in the form of graphs and charts. This module focuses on the Tableau business intelligence tool and how its unique features of data visualization can help in addressing business problems.

At the end of the program, students work on an industry-simulated, business analysis project involving database information.

- Completed Post-Secondary (or post-secondary) studies in Business Management, Social Science or Information Technology, or CEGEP Diploma, or relevant experience of at least 1 year. -High School – Mathematics Secondary 4 436/4 SN or TS/5 CST - Basic knowledge of SQL is considered an asset.
