SQL is the foundation of most data tools used today. This advanced level course provides IT professionals with the knowledge to develop a Microsoft SQL Server database. This course focuses on providing all the skills needed to be proficient in SQL and also on how to use SQL Server product features and tools related to developing a database. Participants will learn concepts of relational databases and SQL (structured language query). They will also learn how to store, query and manipulate data in order to produce relevant information. This course prepares professionals for three official Microsoft certifications.

Eligibility and Requirements

Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system and its core functionality.
Working knowledge of Transact-SQL.
Working knowledge of relational databases.

Abilities acquired
at course completion

Writing SELECT statements with filtering and sorting.

Writing DML statements.

Writing queries that use built-in functions and aggregate data

Writing subqueries, Implement views and table-valued functions.

Writing queries that use window ranking, offset, and aggregate functions.

Creating and implementing stored procedures.

Adding programming constructs such as variables, conditions, and loops to T-SQL code.


Programming – Transact-SQL

This module introduces SQL Server and its different versions, including cloud versions. It also explains how to connect to SQL Server using SQL Server Management Studio, in addition to describing the elements of T-SQL and their role in writing queries.

This modules examines the fundamentals of the SELECT statement, writing queries that combine data from multiple sources in Microsoft SQL Server, implementing sorting and filtering, and usage of aggregate functions.

This module is designed to introduce students to the various data types SQL Server uses to store data. They also learn about DML queries and some of the many built-in functions in SQL Server.

The focus of this module is to explain several types of subquery and describe how to use the set operators UNION, INTERSECT, and EXCEPT to compare rows between two sets and executing stored procedures. This module also covers programming with SQL and error handling.
