This is an entry-level course/program, but it assumes that students have the following:

General IT knowledge
High school diploma
One-year of full-time employment or experience in IT or data analytics, or other related experience
Basic knowledge of Java programming

Upon successful completion of the program, the college grants the student with an AEC - Attestation d’études collégiales

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN COURSE OUTLINE

AEC Program - Big Data Developer

Introduction to the concepts of big data, its problems and challenges. The course will also cover the treatment of big data, the Hadoop Ecosystem and the role of a developer in the big data field.

Introduction to the concepts of programming and algorithms. Students will learn the Scala programming language, object-oriented languages such as Java and Linux Shell, as well as scripting fundamentals.

Introduction to the concepts of relational and non-relational databases. Students will learn how to handle structured and unstructured data, and how to manage big data with Parquet, Hbase and JDBC.

Introduction to different applications used in the field of big data and more specifically the Spark framework.

In this last module of the program, the presentation of data will be done via tables.

Studies show that big data adoption will continue to grow. With $65B in investments in 2018, it is clear that big data is here to stay. However, the big data talent pool is lagging behind and will need to catch up to the pace of the market.
“Big data” is a catch-all term used to describe vast amounts of information that are beyond the scope of traditional software to process in due time. In contrast to traditional structured data typically stored in a relational database, big data varies in terms of volume, velocity, and variety. Big data is characteristically generated in large volumes – on the order of terabytes or exabytes per individual data set. Big data is also generated with high velocity – i.e. it is collected at frequent intervals – which makes it difficult to analyze (though analyzing it rapidly makes it more valuable).
In the next ten years, it’s estimated that career opportunities for big data specialists will increase dramatically. More and more companies are finding that analyzing data allows them to see the big picture and make more strategic business decisions.
